Hargrave's Solavaca Mountain Bike Adventure - A Texas Mountain Bike Trail

Comments and Reviews on the Solavaca

"Fellow North Texas Mountain bikers, you need to do yourself a favor and go out there and ride that Solavaca trail.... ... many, many difficult and challenging obstacles that will test the best riders in DORBA and FWMBA. Congratulations on a great trail, Mack. ... I have never ridden a trail with so many excellent wet creek crossings. ...Your trail is a major addition to the trails in the north Texas area."
- Chris Mann, DORBA Clinics Coordinator
[In answer to a question on Culo de Gato, "Hey Larry - so how hard is this climb?"]
VERY limestony and technical. Not as heinous as the Spillway Climb at Cleburne, but one with a good degree of difficulty. A loose approach to the first crux followed by a left that traverses a small shelf with a couple of 4"-6" ledges onto a bench cut. The bench cut then makes a small descent for about 5 feet of fall and 20-30 feet of run where the climb then transitions onto an off camber, steep climb where you're very close to a couple of trees and four more 4”-6” ledges until you reach the top. The name of the climb merits its characteristics.

Thanks for sharing your trails! My wife and I met you today, and we had a blast. We drove 258 miles round trip and it was worth it. In fact we liked it so much we were talking about getting down there a few times before and after the race.....We can't wait to get back there again, those trails are fun!    - Stephen

General CommentsVery good layout with decent flow. I liked the variety of flat and twisty to varied climbs & technical sections. At 6.5 mi, needs maybe 1 more mile and more riding on this and it will make a great race course!

General CommentsTons of variety. Total of 19 or 20 climbs with different skills required. A drop and a fast descent off of the dam that will get your attention. This trail comes at you pretty fast with hills, creek crossings, rocky sections, and some just plain fun stuff. I usually go around the teeter-totters but this one is well built and gets over a nasty wet spot. Put this trail on your list. You won't be sorry
